How much does Farxiga cost with Medicare in Colorado in 2027?
Farxiga carries a Medicare negotiated price of $183.33 for a 30-day supply in 2027, about $1,075 for the year under the 2027 standard Part D design if it is your only drug, within the $2,400 yearly cap, and FDA approved the first generic dapagliflozin tablets in April 2026; Colorado Part D members paid an average of $37.92 per 30-day fill in 2024.
Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is an SGLT2 inhibitor made by AstraZeneca and used for type 2 diabetes, heart failure and chronic kidney disease. It is a smaller prescription in Colorado than Jardiance: 10,379 Part D members and 3,589 prescribers in 2024. The big question for 2027 is whether your plan prefers brand Farxiga or the new generic.
| Farxiga | Amount |

Brand Farxiga or generic dapagliflozin in 2027
FDA announced on April 7, 2026 that it had approved the first generic versions of Farxiga tablets for several companies; its first generic list shows 15 single-ingredient dapagliflozin applicants dated April 6, 2026, plus generic versions of the dapagliflozin and metformin combination. FDA tells patients to contact manufacturers about availability.
CMS has not listed Farxiga as removed from the negotiation program as of October 2026; a drug leaves only after a generic is approved and marketed, and CMS publishes that determination. The CMS price file carries the brand into 2027 with a negotiated price. On your 2027 plan, look for both names, brand Farxiga and dapagliflozin, and compare tiers.
Where the 2027 price comes from
CMS says 994,000 people with Part D used Farxiga in 2023, with $4.3 billion in gross costs. The negotiated price started at $178.50 in 2026 and rises with inflation to $183.33 for 2027, against a $556 list price. Nationally, average gross spending per Farxiga claim went from $997.75 in 2025 to $328.97 in early 2026.
Worked example on a standard plan
Take the 2027 standard design: a $700 deductible, then 25% coinsurance. Your first three fills are $183.33 each, the April fill is $158.34, and the last 8 fills cost $45.83. That is $1,074.99 for 2027, well below the $2,400 cap.
A generic on a lower tier, or a plan with a $0 drug deductible, would cut that further. Ask before you assume the brand is your only option.
What does not work with Medicare, and what does
The Farxiga savings card is not available to anyone enrolled in Medicare Part D, even paying as a cash customer. Extra Help is: 2026 limits are $23,940 income and $18,090 resources for one person, with brand copays of no more than $14.40 in 2027. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan can also turn the deductible months into smaller monthly bills.
Farxiga in Colorado
Statewide, roughly one Coloradan on Part D used Farxiga for every three who used its rival SGLT2 pill. Pharmacies dispensed 78,121 month-equivalents in 2024, billed at $41,990,062; enrollees covered $2,962,425 themselves, close to $285.42 apiece.
The April 2026 FDA list names the companies cleared to make generic dapagliflozin, among them Teva, Sandoz, Zydus, Cipla, Lupin, Aurobindo, Biocon, Alembic, Alkem, Macleods, Ajanta and Micro Labs. The same list adds generic versions of Xigduo XR (dapagliflozin with extended-release metformin) and of Qtern (dapagliflozin with saxagliptin), so if you take a combination tablet, ask about that exact product rather than plain dapagliflozin.
Prescribed for kidney disease?
If a kidney specialist started you on Farxiga for chronic kidney disease rather than for diabetes, say so at the pharmacy counter. Generic labels can list fewer uses than the brand label, and the April 2026 FDA notice described the newly approved generics in terms of glycemic control and heart failure hospitalization in type 2 diabetes. Your nephrologist and pharmacist can confirm whether substituting the generic suits your diagnosis, and your plan can tell you whether brand Farxiga needs an exception.
